We are very fortunate to receive a sapling from the sacred Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi tree from Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka. Friday the 4th November, 2011 was a very memorable day as the Co-Abbots of Dhammasara Buddhist Nuns' Monastery received a sapling of the sacred Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi from Venerable Dr. Pallegama Sirinivasa Atamasthanadhipathi Nayaka Thero. This rare and auspicious ceremony was held at the Bomaluwa Temple, Anuradhapura, SriLanka. The Co-Abbots Ven. Nirodha Bhikkhuni, Ven. Hasapanna Bhikkhuni as well as newly ordained Samaneri Karunika and Mrs. Ber Sun went from Australia to take part in this ceremony.
Siddharta Goutama Buddha was seated with his back agains the sacred Bodhi tree in Bodhgaya, India when he attained enlightenment. Arahant Sangamitta Theri brought the southern branch of this very tree from Bodhgaya to Sri Lanka in 3rd century BC and now, 2,247 years later, a sapling from this very sacred Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi Tree at Anuradhapura was handed over to Bhikkhuni Sangha to be planted at Dhammasara Buddhist Nuns' Monastery in Western Australia.
