The daily life in the monastery emphasises quiet, seclusion, meditation practice and the study of the Buddha's teachings. The routine at Dhammasara is designed to create an atmosphere conducive to meditation practice. At times there is an emphasis on group practice. At other times the focus shift to solitary practice.
The Daily Routine
5.00am to 6.00 am : Group sitting with chanting
(Monday & Friday)
6.30am to 9.15 am : Breakfast, Community & Work Meetings and Work
9.15am to 9.30 am : Drink & Clean up
9.30am to 10.15am : Group sitting
10.15am to 1.00pm : Dana – food offering, including chanting, Dhamma talk by one of the nuns & blessing given by the community, followed by clean up.
1.00pm to 3.00 pm : Showers, rest or individual practice
3.00pm to 5.00 pm : Individual practice or monastery work as required
5.00pm to 6.30 pm : Evening drinks/showers
7.30pm to 9.00 pm : Group sitting with chanting and or Dhamma talk on some nights

Visiting Dhammasara
The monastery opens every day : 10.15 am to 1 pm.
Visitors are welcome to walk in the visitors walking area near the first dam. Smoking, alcohol, drugs and music are prohibited on the monastery grounds. Dhammasara is strictly a Non Smoking Environment
Lay people come for the daily offering of the meal at 10.30 am and participate in the ancient ceremony by taking the 3 Refuges and the five precepts, follow by a short Dhamma Reflection.
The 3 Refuges : take Refuge in the Buddha, Dhamma, Sangha.
The Five Precepts
- To refrain from intentionally taking the life of any living being.
- To refrain from taking what is not given.
- To refrain from any sexual misconduct.
- To refrain from speech which is dishonest.
- To refrain from using alcohol or non-medical drugs.
