The Nuns Way of Life
Daily life in the monastery emphasises quite, seclusion, meditation practice and the study of the Buddha’s teachings. The daily routine at Dhammasara is designed to create an atmosphere of peace and harmony, conducive to meditation practice. At times there is an emphasis on group practice. At other times the focus shifts to solitary practice.
The Daily Routine
5:00 am – 6:30 am Group sitting with chanting
6:45 am – 7:45 am Breakfast followed by Sutta study
7:45 am – 9:15 am Work
9:15 am – 9:30 am Drink and clean up
9:30 am – 10:30 am Group sitting
10:30 am – 1 pmn Dana - food offering, including chanting, a Dhamma talk by one of the nuns and a blessing given by the monastic community, followed by cleanup
1 pm – 3 pm Showers, rest or Individual practice
3 pm – 5 pm Vinaya or Sutta class, individual practice or monastery work as required
5 pm – 6:30 pm Evening drink / showers
7:30 pm – 9 pm Group sitting with chanting and/or Dhamma talk on some nights
9 pm – 5 am Rest or indiviual practice
